REUNION NOTES

(As reported by Stan Shmukler in the Fall 2002 Alumni Journal)

The 188th class held its 55th year reunion on June 22, 2002. Sixty-two members of the class, of which 55 brought spouses or companions, attended out of approximately 170members of the Class who were able to be contacted.

Toastmaster Stan Shmukler noted that the Class had some extraordinarily successful graduates attending:
Gene Rotberg and Kal Rudman are members of the Central Hall of Fame.

Dr. Paul Siegel and Dr. Bill Franki are former presidents of the Philadelphia County Medical Society.

Marvin Katz is a Senior United States District Judge.
Len Rosenfeld &  Phil Perez had undergone heart transplants (Len was in attendance at the reunion).
Dr. Martin Goldberg a former Dean of Temple Medicine School
Herman Hassinger a noted architect specializing in design of churches.
So many successful doctors, lawyers and accountants (none of the latter charged with "cooking the books") that they could not be enumerated.
We were the only class with a live king, Aaron "King of Mattresses" Shapiro.

A videotape, prepared and narrated by Norton Binder, showing events, headlines, advertisements appearing in 1947, along with pictures of the Class from the yearbook, was distributed to each member of the Class.
Two students from the graduating class, the 261st, Sasha Ovetsky and Peter Moak, answered questions about the differences between 1947 and 2002 in types of classes and notable teachers.
Matt London took pictures of each table, which he immediately scanned into a laptop so that they could be viewed that evening and later added them to the Class' web site. Subsequently he and another class member, Dr. Herbert Blough, reported that they heard from relatives who are alumni that had not been heard from in 55 years, one of whom called from South Africa, after visiting the web site.

The Class has raised approximately $4400 to contribute to Central as a class gift.
